Miki’s story
My sister introduced me to Buppo (Buddha’s Law) in March of 2003.
I used to be a shopaholic. I had a bad habit of spending my entire paycheck. I loved that feeling of satisfaction when I bought things.
When I started chanting, I became arrogant when good things came my way. I only prayed seriously when bad things happened to me. My faith went up and down like a rollercoaster. Then I stopped completely. My circumstances got worse.
At the University Hospital, where I work, the senior nurses looked down on me and I was given the hardest jobs. They treated me very badly.

Finally, I was fed up with this situation. I was getting sick mentally and physically. I told myself that I cannot live like this. I wanted to make a change! I started praying seriously. My sister also told me that shakubuku (sharing Nam Myo Ho Ren Ge Kyo with others) is the most effective way to erase bad Karma, so I started telling others!
Then all of a sudden my situation changed for the better! It’s very mysterious I have to say!
My mean co-workers moved to a different department or retired. My work environment turned into a healthy place!!
Recently, a doctor who is one of the top surgeons for cataracts in Japan, asked me if I could work together with him at his new practice. He offered me a higher salary!
Also, since I am a single mom with five children, my supervisor is helping me out by giving me a flexible schedule. She always encourages me by saying “Hang in there Miki!
I am very grateful for the changes in my life by chanting and sharing Nam Myo Ho Ren Ge Kyo with others.
Due to Covid-19 pandemic, single mothers who were affected, rice, food, allowances, etc. were provided by a single mother support group.
The hospital started accepting patients who were infected with the coronavirus.
The other day, I had to take care of a patient who was suspected of being having it.
When I was putting my protective suit on, the extension lines of the emergency patients started ringing so I had to pick up. While I was helping with that patient’s call, the other staff member took over for me.
On another day, while I was in the bathroom with sudden abdominal pain, another staff member handled an infected patient for me. I noticed that I had been avoiding contact with Covid-19. I was amazed at how I was protected and felt Nichiren Daishonin Buddha’s love.

After the emergency declaration had been cleared, many people were visiting the hospital for treatment. Especially those whose chronic illnesses worsened during the lockdown.
One day a young man whose wound was infected, didn’t realize that it was swarmed with maggots. It gave me goose bumps!
I was very surprised because I thought that maggots only lived in corpses.
I thought about the future disasters that were written in the Sutra and was concerned about the limitations of the medical field.
In June I experienced an event with the “Destruction of the human mind”, which is a sign of ruin of a country.
These are written in Nichiren Daishonin’s Rissho Ankoku Ron (On Establishing the Correct Teaching for the Peace of the Land – July 16th, 1260).
The event happened at a nursery school where my son is attending.
A male teacher in his 20s was arrested for the molestation of children! It was aired on TV and in the local newspapers!
The day before the arrest, my children and I were working together with this same teacher for a school event. He said to my daughter “I can drive you home” .I told him no thank you, but he persisted and said “Let me take you home”. I kept telling him no then he finally gave up.

The next day an emergency meeting was held at the school.
The school told us that he was arrested for molesting children. He had been found guilty of the same crime in his hometown of Kanagawa Prefecture. I was horrified and shocked when I found this out from the police.
He already had received a warrant for arrest the day before! This man is a psychopath and has no conscious!
If my children and I were not chanting, my daughter would have been vulnerable for sure.
At the nursery school, it turned out that obscene acts against the children were revealed. Also the TV reporters were waiting for the children in front of the gate every day. All the parents became irritated and one of them broke one of the windows of the school bus.
It broke my heart to see that. I could not just sit there and do nothing.
Immediately, I told one of mothers about Nam Myo Ho Ren Ge Kyo.
She is a single mom with 6 children. Her two children are still in a child service facility and hasn’t see them for a long time. She was very depressed about not being there for them.
When I told her how my life had changed, she wanted to try chanting!
The day after her Nyushin Gongyo (initial ceremony for seeing Gohonzon sama – Nichiren Daishonin’s soul written in ink), her son who had been hospitalized with fractured bones was suddenly healed! She told me that her son’s doctor was very surprised about what happened.
Now she is sharing with others about Nichiren Daishonin Buddha’s medicine – Nam Myo Ho Ren Ge Kyo, and looking forward to what’s coming next in her life!
Through these experiences, I truly understand the meaning of Nichiren Daishonin’s words
“No matter what happens, everything will be alright!”
Every time we chant, we connect to Nichiren Daishonin Buddha and receive unbreakable happiness. Just like babies who drink milk without knowing how much it benefits them.
Now with the urgency of the three calamities and seven disasters written in Rissho Ankoku Ron, we all need to chant Nam Myo Ho Ge Kyo!
I am full of gratitude toward the Daishonin with how my life has changed. I want people to be protected and experience the power of the Nam Myo Ho Ren Ge Kyo.
Thank you!
