I received a message from Moe.
He is from Myanmar.
He joined Kenshokai three years ago and asked me to contact his niece and nephew who were in Kobe, Japan.
On June 4th, I headed for Kobe City. They had just arrived in May and did not know their way around. Because of the protection and guidance of the Daishonin, we were able to meet up!
When his niece excused herself from the table while the three of us were having a meal, Meng, her older brother, changed his gentle expression and began to talk about the situation in Myanmar as if a dam had busted open.
He said that many citizens were protesting the coup d’état by the military and were appealing to Aung Suu Kyi for Democracy.
Many people had been killed, captured and even young children had been killed in the military crackdown.
He also said that a friend who was protesting with him was shot in front of him. Whenever people go out at night, they are taken into custody on the spot and have no freedom.
Then he continued:
“Myanmar military is a monster that clings to power! The citizens of Myanmar will not stop fighting and protesting! They are brave and fight with handmade guns. They are not afraid to die for their country!”
He looked me straight in the eye as if he was pleading for help.
I was speechless at the sheer cruelty of it all.
The next day, I told them that Nichiren Daishonin is the True Buddha who saves all people and nations from the root cause of suffering.
And I wholeheartedly said:
“Instead of using guns to fight for freedom, let’s chant Nam Myo Ho Ren Ge Kyo with beads to save your country!”
They agreed to come to the prayer hall to meet Gohonzon-sama.
I promised to meet them again when we parted.
From the bullet train on the way home to Aomori, I sent a message to Moe that I had met both his niece and nephew, but I didn’t receive a response. The last time I heard from him was May 26th when I asked for his nephew’s and niece’s address.
I wondered if he was in danger of being discovered by the military for contacting me.
I gasped. My heart tightened and tears welled up in my eyes as I wondered what Moe had in mind when he entrusted me with his nephew and niece.
At the same time, I could not sit still! I have renewed my determination that Japan, which holds the key to true peace in the world, must hurry up and spread Nam Myo Ho Ren Ge Kyo!
