When true law is established, the nation will become pure
During the reign of Emperor Kinmei, the thirtieth emperor, Buddhism was first introduced to Japan. From that time until the reign of Emperor Kanmu, spanning twenty generations and over two hundred years, although six schools of Buddhism existed, the Buddhist teachings had not yet been established.
In the Enryaku era, the Great Teacher Dengyo appeared in Japan. He corrected the errors of the six schools previously introduced with the Lotus Sutra, designated Mount Hiei as the head temple, and established all other temples as its subordinate. This is the sole gateway to the Buddhist teaching in Japan. Just as a nation cannot have two sovereigns, once the true law is established, the nation will naturally purify itself.-Nichiren Diashonin
