Jukkai-ron (Ten States)

The universe consists of Ujo (有情) and Hijo (非情).
Ujo is like animals and humans who have feelings and thoughts.
Jukkai (十界) is the ten states, or feelings, of Ujo that is divided into ten kinds by their states and environments. Belong to Ningen, and planets belong to Tenjo, and so on. The important thing here is each of these ten kinds of Ujo also have ten states in them.

The various aspects of human life are all contained in these ten states. The following is a brief explanation of the ten states that are part of the human world.

1. Jigoku Kai (Hell:地獄界) – the state of suffering from any cause.
2. Gaki Kai (Craving:餓鬼界) – the state of being dominated by desire. A stingy person with riches. A person who eats gourmet food but is stingy with his parents.
3. Chikusho kai (Animality, Laziness:畜生界) – The state of seeing things shortsightedly and irrationally. Looking for the easy way out.
3. Chikusho Kai (Animality, Laziness:畜生界) –  Also, a state of cowardliness by being afraid of superiors and looking down on inferiors.
4. Shura kai (Anger, control:修羅界) – the state of being filled with anger and jealousy.
5. Ningen kai(Tranquility:人間界) – the state of being peaceful, rational, and thoughtful. Be moral and respectful of your parents, siblings, wife, children, and friends.
6. Tenjo Kai (Rapture: 天上界) – the state of being filled with joy when a wish comes true, a situation in which you are living a life of inherited good fortune but it does not last long.
7. Shomon Kai (Intellectual: 声聞界) – the state of pleasure derived from learning. It is characterized by an obsession with knowledge, self-righteousness, and a lack of concern for the benefit of others.
8. Engaku kai (Realization: 縁覚界) – the state of being ecstatic over something. e.g. A beautiful scenery. Obsessed with self-righteousness and lack of compassion to others
9. Bosatsu kai (Bodhisattva: 菩薩界) – the state of helping others.
In the Mappo era, a person who, as follower of Nichiren Daishonin, chants Nam Myo Ho Ren Ge Kyo and encourage others to chant and is determined to complete the Daishonin’s testament.
10. Bukkai (Buddhahood: 仏界)
Nichiren Daishonin’s state of being is the Buddhist world.

The great wisdom that proved of the ultimate truth of life; Nam Myo Ho Ren Ge Kyo, the immense power that he revealed at the execution site at the Tatsunokuchi, and the unlimited compassion that enabled Nichiren Daishonin Buddha to endure great hardships and bestow the three treasures on all mankind.

Inside of us are ten states that can appear at any moment.
For example, when one is badly picked on, Jigoku (Hell,Suffering) is appearing. Shomon (Intellectual) appears while studying, and Ningen (Tranquility) appears when calm.

However, there are states that affect us strongly and happen often in our lives. When Shura (Anger, Control) appears a lot, this person always causes fights. When Jigoku is strong, one suffers from diseases.

This tendency is called one’s fate.
Bad fate can be changed by believing in the Gohonzon and chant “Nam Myo Ho Ren Ge Kyo”, Nichiren Daishonin Buddha will appear in your soul, and a person’s life force strengthens, and they are protected by the force of the Universe.
